TAk över huvudet
(A roof over my head)
situation stockholm
Background
Situation Stockholm is a non-profit urban magazine that employs homeless people as their vendors as a way to get back into society. Every vendor is an entrepreneur, and every sold magazine means a step closer to finding a home.
The newspaper was offered a free media placement in an all too fitting place for the homeless – on electric boxes around the city, slightly below people’s line of vision. A campaign was needed that was both eye-catching, thought provoking and street credible. I illustrated and art directed three posters that symbolizes what selling the magazine means for the homeless; Tak över huvudet (a roof over my head), En väg tillbaka (a road back) and En säng för natten (a bed for the night).
My role in the project:
❋ Creative Concept
The idea came from the old visual of covering yourself from rain with the help of a magazine. It then expanded onto the magazine being a mattress as well as a doorway into something good.
❋ illustrations & art direction
I based the illustrations on stencil art found around urban spaces around the world, most famously by Banksy. I then designed the illustration on top of a background that matched the electric boxes, to create an illusion that they were actually painted on.
